MEMORIALIZED : MOTHER'S RINGS
1:55 PM
Mother's Rings generally include the birthstones of her children, and they may also be personalized with family names for a cherished keepsake memorializing their love. The first Mother's Rings were introduced to the public in 1958 by two brothers, Valmore and Emile Guertin, who owned the Guertin Brothers jewelry store in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Val Guertin created the Mother's Ring out of a need for a gift for his wife on Mother's Day.

The first Mother's Rings originally consisted of two wedding bands, one to represent the marriage, and the other to represent the children through the selection of birthstones. It became common place to gift Mother's Rings upon the birth of a new child or grandchild. Once the trend of gifting Mother's Rings became widely accepted, birthstone jewelry caught on in many forms, and other birthstone jewelry such as charms, bracelets, and necklaces flooded the market making it easy to memorialize and celebrate mom.
As a mom myself, I don't feel like Mother's Day is necessarily an occasion to gift fine jewelry, as much as I love jewelry and love to receive it on any occasion. I see Mother's Day as a day of relaxation and pampering. It is truly a day where you show your mom how much you appreciate her and all she does for you.
A friend sent me this great video. It really makes me pause and remember how important and difficult it is to be a mother. Share it with your girlfriends, sisters, and any special mom in your life.
